The City Garden, Lincoln Cathedral – Saturday 3 May 2014 at 7.30pm.

Over 250 singers and musicians will perform together under the direction of Jeremy Backhouse.  The Scunthorpe Co-operative Junior Choir and choirs from the Lincoln Minster School will join the Salisbury Community Choir, who commissioned the work to celebrate their 21st birthday and performed it for the first time in Salisbury Cathedral in October 2013.

Will Todd is one of Britain’s finest young composers and was responsible for the The Call of Wisdom which featured in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Thanksgiving Service.

The City Garden takes the listener on a romantic journey through the seasons with different moods, temperatures and weather supplying the light and shade.  It combines a foot-tapping mix of jazz and gospel with unforgettable melodies and lyrics, and links the four seasons and the human journey from Adam’s fall to man’s redemption, it is a moving and spiritual work on many levels.

In the third movement, ‘Spring’, Will has written an amazing gospel-style song called ‘Inside my Heart’. It is just a deeply moving and lush song for adult choir, children’s choir and backing. The SCC will be recording this song in March with the proceeds going to The Rainbow Trust, a charity that helps families where a child is terminally ill. Copies of the CD will be available at Lincoln.

The concert will be promoted in association with St Barnabas Hospice in Lincoln.
