Concert in Lincoln cathedral a great success
About 110 members of the Salisbury Community Choir travelled to Lincoln for the weekend of May 3rd 2014 to take part in a second performance of “The City Garden”, which SCC had commissioned from the composer Will Todd to celebrate its 21st Birthday in 2013.
The choir was joined in this concert by Lincoln Minster School Chamber Choir and school youth choirs and also Scunthorpe Co-operative Junior choir. The choirs met for the first time and rehearsed in the cathedral on the Friday evening and joined the orchestra for rehearsal on the Saturday afternoon. The choir enjoyed meeting many people from Lincoln and the concert was a great celebration of community spirit and joyous singing.
The choir also continued its effort to support community organisations by singing in aid of St Barnabus Lincolnshire Hospice, a very worthy local cause.
The composer Will Todd attended the concert along with Ben Dunwell who wrote the words. Will sent the choir the following message after the concert-
I was so glad to a part of Saturday evening’s wonderful concert. I felt the performance was stronger than the Salisbury one (although that went really well). It’s probably that, doing the piece a second time, everyone has that little bit of extra confidence. It was brilliant. Huge congratulations to you all for making it happen. The CD looks amazing and Rowan was thrilled to unwrap her ‘first copy’ – thank you for making such a thoughtful gift.
See you soon re the launch of the CD.
Best wishes,
Will
The choir would like to thank the cathedral authorities, the Hospice representatives, the other choirs and orchestra and the people of Lincoln for making us feel so welcome. We look forward to the official launch of our new CD of the part of The City Garden entitled” Inside my Heart” in aid of the Rainbow Trust.
